the pressure from social media worked. In systemd, age verification has finally been reverted and removed for good. Linux is always for privacy conscious users, it isn't just another Microslop SlopOS github.com/systemd/systemd/pul… thanks @reddy_1975 for the heads up!
EDIT: they rejected the PR. So keep fight on! systemd folks are cowards and enabling this mess.

Eloquence 64-bit for NVDA now supports a 44 kHz mode. It’s currently in preview and still being fine-tuned.
You can use the Sample Rate combo box in the Voices dialog to increase the default rate from 11 kHz to 44 kHz for clearer speech.
Unlike the 22 kHz mode in IBMTTS and ViaVoice, this mode doesn’t introduce pops, jitters, or unexpected voice resets.
Try the 16.1 upsampling preview release:

@austinnix Cool. I'm still using eloquence via IBMTTS on 64bit. YOu can get preview releases with that.
The hell? Why? How? Doesn't that just do the exact same resampling pass that the mixer system does before it hits the audio device?

Oh God, dude rolled his own resampling algorithm with AI? At least 44100 is integer upsampling which is by far easier than fractional upsampling or downsampling, but why not a known open one? R8Brain free, for example. Sinc interpolation giving too ideal upsampling to keep it sounding dull I guess?

@bmoore123 Problem is, you'll never improve audio quality by upsampling.
@Bruce @bmoore123 I think whether it is an improvement or not depends on how you look at it. Objectively speaking, the upsampler can't improve anything because it can't intellligently add missing content. But its aliasing artifacts (which are in the high frequencies) makes it sound better to some people. Not knocking the people who like it btw, I like it as much as anyone else. I just don't want people thinking of it as some modern quality enhancement voodoo, because it really isn't. It's a decades-old artifact that finally got implemented in an Eloquence add-on for people who like it.
@musicalman @Bruce @bmoore123 Right. Of course, no one was talking about modern quality enhancements. It improves speech/ audio quality like the 22 kHZ mode in IBMTTS for ViaVoice, or even better than that I'd say.
@Bruce no, that's true but 8 k sounds like crap. I don't know if I would use it but I would try it

@bmoore123 Yeah I was also surprised. And the author wants to add another slider for more fine-tuning.
This has the hiss the Eloquence on the iPhone has. It is particular Noticeable on words with s in them. I did hear some popping. but the hiss is very noticeable.
@Dennislong82 But I don't notice the hiss with Eloquence 64-bit at all, even with headphones. And yes, I do have the hiss on the iPhone. Perhaps it is speaker/ CPU-specific.
I just tried installing this, and it broke my eloquence so bad that when NVDA restarted, it switched to the windows one core voices. when I try to switch back to eloquence, I get this error.
Synthesizer Error dialog Could not load the eloquence synthesizer.
@JamminJerry Try uninstalling your Eloquence add-on, restarting NVDA, and reinstalling the newer one.
unfortunitly that didn't work either.
I wonder if the IBM tts is interfearing with it somehow? it is the only thing I can think of at this point.

Do you think you could attach a demo of this here? It'd be appreciated, as I neither have the addon, nor that newest nvda version which is still in beta isn't it?
@McOi I'd very much like to, but my super-crappy, war-affected internet access doesn't allow me to do it.
I think that the increased sample rate of 44.1 kHz sounds pretty terrible. The sibilants still sound dull, but with annoying overtones.
@adkurz Hmm. What to say other than TTS is subjective. I really like this 44 kHZ mode, and didn't like the so-called muddiness of the 22 kHZ mode in IBMTTS/ ViaVoice along with its clicks.

Today, I was forced to use the GMail website to fix a problem I was having with messages. I don't care what people say. It's absolutely atrocious and headache-inducing. It's also overly and needlessly complicated, and yes, that includes all the little shortcuts, turning NVDA browse mode off, etc. I switched to Thunderbird 102 when they shut down the Basic HTML site. But today, I thought of something very interesting. Third party clients can access GMail. Why couldn't someone recreate the Basic HTML site, either as a site that retrieves e-mail or as a web application? Apparently, someone already made a concept demonstration of it.

I've also heard that screenshots have been taken of the original pages. If someone could do this, it would be wonderful for the blind community. Yes, Thunderbird works, but sometimes, it's simpler and quicker to just use the site. What I don't know, though, is if setting could be changed that way. I imagine that searching for messages would still work.
Now, if only someone could bring back the Mobile Youtube site from 2017! That was also wonderful and useful, unlike the modern mess!

Now I am working on a streaming thing for clients so that fast SM doesn't say lost connection haha.
Just to let you know, we offer Video chat, text chat and unlimited characters in posts and you can control what is searchable across the fediverse if you decide to join us. Also, we use some third parties to handle all of this in the background, to make this functionality possible.

Meta, the evil corp who is behind this, wants everything trackable, starting with your age &d id verification, KYC, & whatnot. it is my computer, & i am not going to be tracked. it is the same reason you use an adblocker

"It's an optional field in the userdb JSON object. It's not a policy engine, not an API for apps. We just define the field, so that it's standardized iff people want to store the date there, but it's entirely optional."
